GREETINGS FROM THE KINDERGARTEN/GRADE 1 CLASSROOM
In our school, we begin every September with a community breakfast and a brand new
t-shirt from the Aatse Davie School. In our classroom we work on Respect, Work, and
Belonging. These three words instill in our children confidence, responsiblity, and a great
environment for Independent Learners. In our classroom, our teacher greets us in our
Tsek’ene language: "Dekant’ea?" (How are you?)
Our reply: "Showast’e!" (Doing fine)
Each day is a new day for learning and enjoying each other’s company.
We have made a Cultural Bulletin in our classroom. Mary Charlie, our language teacher,
gave us a very powerful phrase: "If we lose our language, we lose our history!"
Now we learn new and interesting facts about our culture, language, values, and beliefs.
We still like to learn some Tsek’ene songs and dances.
We enjoy all new learning every day in our classroom. We enjoy math, science, social
studies, journals, painting and especially exploration time. This is time that we could have
free time, dressing in dresses and digging out all of our manipulatives. We love out "teach"
and our "teach" loves us!
